strange domestic satisfaction...

i feel like the most ridiculous mormon housewife blogging about the joys of my housewifery...but i'm just so excited about my little life accomplishments...

yesterday, i bought a 2.5 lb. london broil, 4 zucchini, celery, 3 lbs. of red potatoes, 4 yellow onions, 4 navel oranges, 2.5 lbs. of green grapes, 10 granny smith apples, and 8 fuji apples for $13. i came home feeling like a rockstar and bragged to my husband.

isn't that ridiculous? yeah. it is.

later, bran and i bought the rest of our groceries and price matched pretty much everything. i even did my best to follow the prophet and bought some extra staples to add to our little food storage. we could probably not go grocery shopping for weeks and still have plenty to eat.

bargain food shopping has become one of my talents. apparently.

then i made a huge batch of lentil soup...
carrot, celery, onion, zucchini, diced tomatoes, garlic, acini de pepe, lentils, sausage, and italian seasoning. it was delicious. and i'm not kidding when i say a huge batch either. we ate our fill for dinner, packed some for lunch, and froze the rest (3 meals worth!)
talk about domesticity.

then i sliced some zucchini to freeze for later and prepped some other produce so it will be ready to use straight out of the fridge. and then i made a fruit salad.
and i was so proud of myself.

now i'm all giddy about my plans for pot roasts and apple crisps and pork tenderloin and deviled eggs and sauteed zucchini and belgian waffles and a million other things...i want to plant a garden and compile an organized cookbook of my favorite dishes and pursue all kinds of domestic endeavors...

every day, i'm still surpised at my enthusiasm for my own potential homemaking skills. i really had no idea that i would love all of this stuff so much. it's a strange satisfaction.

i guess i've just really learned to appreciate a full fridge, belly, and wallet!

  1. You may not have thought you would love all the aspects of homemaking but anyone who knows your mom knew it was stirring somewhere in the blood! You are so cute! way to go on all the new skills and you should post the lentil soup recipe cause a good one is hard to find!
