life is not a competition...

despite what the world tries to make us believe, we're not actually here to be better than one another. i get so tired of feeling like every person/family is in fierce competition with every other person/family to see who can be the most perfect, talented, accomplished, attractive, etc. that is the exact opposite of how Heavenly Father works.

i was reading an ensign article (found here) in which the author quoted elder jeffrey r. holland:

"He does not mercilessly measure [His children] against their neighbors. He doesn't even compare with each other. His gestures of compassion toward one do not require a withdrawal or denial of love for the other....I testify that no one of us is less treasured or cherished of God than another. I testify that He loves each of us--insecurities, anxieties, self-image, and all. He doesn't measure our talents or our looks; He doesn't measure our professions or our possessions."

i liked the quote so much, i looked up the entire talk (found here)...and i loved the entire talk so much, i figured it was definitely worth sharing. it's a nice reminder that we're all in this together.
