men's t-shirt --> rosette skirt...

i've been sewing/crafting/creating like a mad woman. i don't even know what to post about first!

i'm super proud of this refashioning project, however, so i guess we'll start with that...

skirts are pretty simple to make...especially with an elastic waistband. elastic waists are not exactly high-fashion, but they are easy. (and if you gain weight they still fit. haha.) so i've experimenting with different ideas.

during one of my "scouring-the-internet-for-ideas" sessions, i came across this pattern by v&co.
i thought to myself, "i don't need to buy the pattern, i'm smart enough to figure it out." so i bought a large men's t-shirt at walmart for $4.50 and went to work.

i went with blue-green fruit of the loom.
using a skirt i already own as a template, i cut the body of the skirt using the hem of the shirt as the bottom hem of the skirt. then i made a pleat-ish trim (instead of a ruffle) out of the sleeve fabric and added some rosette details using scraps.

ta-da!
my refashioned rosette skirt.

the only thing i would do differently next time (and there will be a next time!) is i would get an XL or XXL shirt so i can make it a bit wider and have more fabric to play with. besides that (and my many sewing errors) i am so happy with it. it's super comfy and it looks like something i would buy...

except i made it for under 5 bucks.

(insert sense of accomplishment here.)
